Sucking, swallowing, chewing, smiling, breathing, resting, sleeping, talking and… so many things to do! How well we do all of these is determined by the function of the oral and facial muscles and the supporting head and neck framework and soft tissues. It is rarely a perfect combination… and often we ‘put up with things’ or don’t even recognise there is a problem, and sometimes people can really be in need of help! Orofacial Myologists are trained to recognise issues that are already present or may present problems in the future if not addressed early and help clients of all ages work towards improved health. It’s not a new form of therapy, it’s just different!
